    On February 15, 2011, at 04:40 UTC the Sturdast satellite will have its closest encounter with Comet Tempel 1. Comet Tempel 1 was the comet previously targeted by the Deep Impact mission, making Stardust-NExT the first-ever follow-up mission to a comet. For details see the Stardust-NExT home page.

    The time of closest encounter corresponds to 8:40 pm on February 14 in Los Angeles, 05:40 CET in Central Europe and 06:40 EET in Finland.

    On November 4th the - re-used - Deep Impact spacecraft rushes by the comet 103P/Hartley (colloquially known as Hartley 2), at a distance of only 700 km. It is the 'mothership' of the original Deep Impact mission that sent a big mass of copper into the nucleus of another comet, Tempel 1, to observe the - dramatic - effects. Deep Impact's cameras will provide close-up images of the 5th comet nucleus visited. Find out more on the mission homepage
